ROCHESTER, Mich. ? The University of Cincinnati men?s soccer team dropped its fourth one-goal match of the season, 1-0, against Oakland University today (Sept. 18).
Oakland extended its undefeated streak to four matches as the Bearcats fell to 1-4-0 on the year.
Oakland forward Chris Edwards scored the only goal of the match in the 82nd minute to propel the 3-1-1 Grizzlies. Edwards gathered in a pass from midfielder Bret McNabb and beat UC goalkeeper Mike Vessells (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) from the left side for his team-leading third goal of the season. Vessells made two saves and has allowed two goals or less in four of the last five matches.
The Bearcats were able to get only five shots off as the stingy Oakland defense kept the pressure on throughout the match. The Grizzlies mustered ten shots, only three of which were on goal.
The Bearcats will travel down the road to face rival Xavier University on Sept. 22 at the Xavier Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
