LOUISVILLE, Ky.---Freshman Allison Mayborg is just five strokes off the lead in her first collegiate tournament, leading the University of Cincinnati women?s golf team at the Cardinal Cup.
Mayborg (Monroe, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) fired rounds of 72 and 75 to finish the day tied for third with a 36-hole total of 147. Mayborg is just three shots out of second place and is five back of Lisbeth Meincke of Georgia State who had rounds of 70 and 72 to hold the lead. UC?s other freshman, Hillery Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) also had an outstanding first day, finishing tied for 12th after rounds of 78 and 79.
In the team standings, Cincinnati finds itself sixth with a two-round total of 636. Georgia State is in the lead at 612 and the Bearcats trail fifth place James Madison by 11 strokes.
Senior Alysa Few (London, Ontario/East Tennessee State) is also in the top-20, finishing day one of the event tied for 19th. Few shot rounds of 79 and 81 on the day.
