INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.---With a pair of players in the top-10, the University of Cincinnati men?s golf team is just two strokes out of the team lead at the Butler Fall Invitational, being played at the Eagle Creek Golf Course.
Sophomore Geoff Newman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) is showing the way for the Bearcats, tied for third with a 36-hole total of 141. Newman carded scores of 71 in each of Monday?s two rounds. Junior John Clodfelder (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) also cracked the top-10, tying for eighth after one day with a two-round score of 145. Clodfelder opened the day with a 73, before firing a second round 72.
The team standings show the Bearcats just two strokes back of IUPUI with a score of 585. UC showed its consistency, shooting a team total of 293 in round one, followed by a 292 in the second round. In comparison, IUPUI carded a first round 300, but recovered with a tournament-best 283 in the final 18 holes.
The Bearcats will go for the tournament title when the event wraps up on Tuesday. The final 18 holes are set to get underway with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT.
