LOUISVILLE, Ky.---Freshman Allison Mayborg shot a final round 81 to secure a top-five finish in her first collegiate tournament, leading the University of Cincinnati women?s golf team at the Cardinal Cup.
Mayborg (Monroe, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) slipped two spots in the finishing order during the last 18 holes, but finished just one stroke out of fourth and 14 out of the top spot. She finished the tournament with a score of 228, after opening day rounds of 72 and 75.
Mayborg?s effort helped UC to a seventh place finish in the team standings with a score of 959. UC finished just three strokes behind sixth-place UCF and 18 back of fifth place Southern Miss. James Madison eeked out the team crown by a single stroke over day one leader Georgia State.
Senior Alysa Few (London, Ontario/East Tennessee State) and freshman Hillery Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) also earned top-20 finishes, tying for 16th with totals of 237. Few shot a 77, her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, while Wilson carded an 80.
The Bearcats will be right back in action this weekend, travelling to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the Unlimited Potential Bay Tree Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston. The results will cover three days, beginning on Friday (Sept. 24).
