CINCINNATI, Ohio ? The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team dropped its Conference USA opener, 2-0, at UAB tonight (Sept. 24). The Blazers scored twice in the first half and held on to send Cincinnati to its worst start in school history at 2-6-0.

UAB set the tone in the first half, jumping ahead at 33:55 when senior Jenny Rynders took a cross from Liz Bosscher and beat UC freshman Jen Doerflein (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton), who was making the first start of her career, for her third goal of the season. Doerflein was peppered with shots throughout, making eight saves.

The Blazers added to their lead with an insurance goal at 44:50 when sophomore Lauren Richards knocked in a loose ball in front following a corner kick by Tara Kidwell. In the stanza, UAB outshot the Bearcats, 14-4, and took two corner kicks to Cincinnati's none.

The Blazers played aggresively throughout the match, racking up 16 fouls and outshooting the Bearcats, 26-6, on the evening. UC was unable to muster a shot on UAB keeper Katie Forbis, who notched her first shutout of the year without making a single save.

Cincinnati will head to Tampa, Fla. for a match with USF on Sunday, Sept. 26. The Bearcats and Bulls kickoff at 1 p.m.
