The University of Cincinnati women?s soccer team returns home from a season-long three-match road trip as they welcome Southern Miss to Gettler Stadium on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. The Bearcats then play host to Tulane on Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.

LAST WEEK: UC dropped its Conference USA opener, 2-0, at UAB on Sept. 24. The Bearcats were outshot, 26-6, in the match and were shutout for the fifth time this season.

The Bearcats were scheduled to play USF in Tampa, Fla. on Sept. 26, but the match was postponed due to Hurricane Jeanne.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES: The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (4-3-1/0-2-0 C-USA) travel to Cincinnati following a 1-0 loss to C-USA foe Houston at home.

Senior forward Lauren Prewitt leads the Golden Eagles and ranks second in C-USA with nine goals. She has scored more than half of her team?s goals and has recorded 20 of its 44 points.

Former Southern Miss soccer player Gail Macklin (Southern Miss ?01) is in her first season as the head coach of the Golden Eagles.

UC-SOUTHERN MISS SERIES: The Bearcats are unbeaten in five matches with Southern Miss. The teams last met in 2002, with UC coming away with a 2-0 victory.

ABOUT THE GREEN WAVE: The Tulane Green Wave make the trip to Cincinnati following a 4-1 win at home against TCU on Sept. 26.

The Green Wave is led by Lindsey Morris, who has scored four goals, including two game-winners. Goalkeeper Megan Morey is second in the conference with 44 saves.

Head coach Betsy Anderson (N.C. State ?95) holds a 30-30-6 record in her fourth season with the Green Wave.

UC-TULANE SERIES: UC is unbeaten in six matches all-time against Tulane. The last time the two teams met, in 2002, the Bearcats and Green Wave played to a 1-1 draw in New Orleans.

?FRESH? FACES: A gang of newcomers has made its presence felt on the offensive side of the field for the Bearcats. Freshman Amanda Ryan and redshirt freshman Rachel Epps each scored their first career goal against Evansville on Sept. 12. The Bearcats started four freshmen and two sophomores in the match, energizing the squad and ultimately leading to a 2-0 victory. Sophomore first-year player Ana Farmer and freshman Cara Alldred, along with Ryan and Epps, have accounted for four of the Bearcats six goals this season.

DOERFLEIN GETS NOD: With senior goalkeeper Tracy Hale injured, freshman Jen Doerflein made her first collegiate start in net against UAB on Sept. 24. Although she allowed two goals and UC lost the contest, the rookie keeper made eight saves.

HALE SHUTS ?EM OUT: With her recent 2-0 shutout win against Evansville on Sept. 12, senior goalkeeper Tracy Hale moved into fifth place on the all-time shutout list with 13.5. She is 7.5 shutouts away from Julie Williams (1981-84).

GLENN NUMBER 10: Head coach Meridy Glenn currently ranks 10th in overall victories as a Division I head coach with 237. Her .611 (237-146-28) winning percentage in 21 seasons ranks 33rd all-time amongst Division I mentors.

C-USA POLL: The Bearcats have been picked to finish seventh in a preseason poll of Conference USA?s coaches. UAB, the 2003 regular season champions, has been selected to repeat, followed by Saint Louis, DePaul and Marquette.

UP NEXT: UC heads back out on the road for a pair of conference matches. The Bearcats play at Marquette on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. CT and then at DePaul on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. CT.
