SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati women?s golf team will utilize a split squad format early next week, as they compete in a pair of tournaments on Oct. 3-4. Five members of the Bearcat roster will travel to Huntley, Ill. to compete in the 21st annual Huskie Classic, hosted by Northern Illinois. The balance of UC?s squad will be off to Dayton, Ohio to compete in the Dayton Fall Invitational. That tournament will be held on just Oct. 4.
PREVIEWING THE NIU TOURNAMENT: A total of nine teams will converge on Whisper Creek Golf Course in Huntley, Ill. for the 21st annual Huskie Classic, hosted by Northern Illinois University. Joining the hosts and the Bearcats will be Conference USA member Saint Louis, along with Cleveland State, Dartmouth, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Illinois, Loyola-Chicago and Western Illinois. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Sunday, Oct. 3, beginning at 9:36 a.m. CT and the final 18 on Monday, Oct. 4, beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. CT. Western Michigan is the two-time defending tournament champion, but will not compete in this fall?s event.
PREVIEWING THE UD TOURNAMENT: The 2004 Dayton Fall Invitational will be played on the South Course of the NCR Country Club in Dayton, Ohio. The one-day tournament will consist of 18 holes and is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 4). Just four teams will participate in the event with Oakland and Robert Morris joining the host Flyers and the Bearcats.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT: UC?s two freshmen have displayed their talents in each of the Bearcats? first two tournaments of the year as both players have earned the first top-five finish of their respective careers . Allison Mayborg was the first of the duo to accomplish the feat, tying for fifth at the season-opening Cardinal Cup in Louisville. Later that same week, Hillery Wilson paced the team with a fifth place finish at the Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Classic. The freshmen duo feature the top two averages on the team, with Wilson (76.0) holding the edge over Mayborg (77.8). Wilson also has the team?s lowest round of the year, a 71, with Mayborg right behind at 72.
