SOUTH BEND, Indiana ? The University of Cincinnati cross country teams placed among the nation's elite today (Oct. 1) at the 49th annual Notre Dame Invitational. The Bearcat men finished 16th of 24 squads in the competitive men's Blue Division, as the women placed 4th of 19 teams in the women's Gold Division.

Sophomore Kevin Schwarz (Maineville, Ohio/Moeller) was the top men's finisher, placing 82nd in 25:01, his best time of the season. Sophomore Mike Smith (Fostoria, Ohio/St. Wendelin) and senior Eric Bair (Canton, Ohio/Canton South) also scored for Cincinnati, navigating the 8K course in 25:10 and 25:16, respectively.

Senior Ruth Limo (Mosoriot, Kenya/Toledo) finished third in 18:13. Junior Karen Berling (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) took 14th place, finishing the 5K course in 18:40. Sophomore Cristy Doll (Northbend, Ohio/Taylor) turned in an 18:44 performance, good for 15th place.

The men's and women's team titles were won by the defending Division-I national champions, Stanford. BYU's Josh Rohatinsky paced the men, finishing in 23:40. The women's individual championship was nabbed by Stanford's Sarah Bei, who completed the course in 16:22.

The Bearcats are in action next weekend as both the men and women travel to the All-Ohio Championships in Delaware, Ohio on Oct. 8.
