ANN ARBOR, Mich. ? The University of Cincinnati tennis team got its 2004-05 season underway on Friday with opening day play at the Wolverine Invitational hosted by Michigan.
UC?s lone singles win came from its newest player, as freshman Lindsay Brown knocked off Michigan State?s Marta Walasek, 4-6, 6-1 (10-8), in first round play in the Maize bracket. Brown lost her second round match to Xavier?s Kristen Clary, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles play, Brown and Samantha Liu topped MacKenzie Hanna and Eilene Cotter of Michigan State, as UC led 6-0 when the Spartan tandem withdrew. The Bearcat duo fell in the second round to a Wolverine duo.
The tournament continues on Saturday and concludes on Sunday.
