BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Cincinnati men?s soccer team lost its second straight Conference USA match, 1-0, against UAB tonight (Oct. 2) at West Campus Field. The Bearcats drop to 2-7-0 overall and 1-2-0 in C-USA play with the loss. The Blazers won for the fifth straight match, improving to 6-3-0, a prefect 3-0-0 in the conference.
UAB forward Jerson Monteiro scored the lone goal, his fifth of the season, at the 52:08 mark to send the Blazers to their best start in conference play since opening 4-0 in 2001. Goalkeeper Jeremy Drake notched the shutout in his first start of the season.
The Bearcats have now lost two straight to the Blazers, dropping a 1-0 decision in 2003. UAB outshot UC, 12-9, in a defensive struggle. The Bearcats were able to get only two shots on goal as the Blazers fired seven shots on Cincinnati keeper Mike Vessells (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin).
Cincinnati will return to action on Oct. 6 as the Bearcats travel to Chicago, Ill. for a C-USA match with DePaul. Kickoff is 3:00 p.m. CT.
