CHICAGO, Ill. ? The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie tonight (Oct. 6) at DePaul. The Bearcats move to 2-7-1 overall this season, 1-2-1 in C-USA while the Blue Demons remain winless in conference action at 0-3-1 while moving to 2-8-3 overall.
Senior forward Jeremiah Gallegos (Laguna Beach, Ca./St. Margaret) drilled a one-timer past DePaul keeper Brian Allen in the 22nd minute for his third goal of the season off of a pass in front from junior Jeff Hughes(Independence, Ky./Western Michigan).
UC outplayed DePaul in the first half, taking three more shots and the only corner kick of the stanza.
The Blue Demons were able to knot the match at one in the 82nd minute. Patrick Vyncke took a throw-in from Kurt Albrecht and beat UC netminder Mike Vessells (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) for his fifth goal of the season.
The teams played two uneventful overtime periods, combining for only one shot.
The tie was the Bearcats' first of the season following six draws last year.
Cincinnati will travel to North Carolina for a C-USA matchup with Charlotte, the team that knocked the Bearcats out of the conference tournament a season ago. Kickoff from Transamerica Field is 7 p.m. ET on Oct. 8.
