SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati men?s golf team is back in action for the second time this week when they compete in the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic, hosted by Winthrop University. The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days beginning Friday (Oct. 8). The El Campeon-Mission Inn in Howie-In-The-Hills, Fla. will serve as the host course for the event. Old Dominion won the 2003 edition of the tournament by a slim one shot over Bethune-Cookman.

LAST TIME OUT: Junior Adam Fluty?s round of 78 was good enough for a top-10 finish, leading UC at the Dayton Fall Invitational, held at NCR Country Club. Fluty finished the tournament tied for eighth, as UC finished tied for fourth in the five-team standings. The Bearcats carded a team total of 326 for the day to tie with Oakland?s second squad. The top team from Oakland took the team prize with a score of 296. Trailing Fluty in the standings for Cincinnati were freshman Peter Heile and junior Justin Wilson, each tied for 17th with scores of 82. The round for Heile was the first of his collegiate career.

NO RELATION: Though Wilson is the most common last name among UC men?s and women?s golfers, none of the trio is actually related. On the men?s team are Justin, a native of Canfield, Ohio and Chad, a Peebles, Ohio native. UC?s women?s team also features a Wilson in freshman Hillery who is from Hudson, Ohio.

IN THE RANKINGS: The latest Golfweek rankings show the Bearcats as the 163rd ranked team in the country. Individually, five players are among the ranked. Those Bearcats with their rankings include: John Clodfelder (707), Justin Wilson (732), Geoff Newman (862), Adam Fluty (965) and Joe Young (998).

LOOKING AHEAD: Following the Mission Inn Classic, the Bearcats have just one more tournament scheduled for the fall season. UC will travel to Clarksville, Tenn. to compete in the Precept Intercollegiate on Oct. 25-26. The tournament, to be played at the Clarksville Country Club, will be hosted by Austin Peay.
