HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.?The University of Cincinnati men?s golf team got a 76 from Geoff Newman and a career-best 73 from freshman Peter Heile to highlight day two of the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic, hosted by Winthrop University.
Newman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) sits tied for 29th after 36 holes with a total of 149. Heile (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) advanced from 94th to 69th in the order with his career-best round. The duo?s play advanced the Bearcats to 12th in the team standings with a day two total of 301. The Bearcats have shot a 607 through two days of play.
The top of the team standings show the host Eagles with a four-shot lead over Charleston Southern. Winthrop has a two-day total of 575. UT-Chattanooga?s Bryce Ledford is the individual leader after two rounds, with a 136, shooting three-under par 68 each day.
Juniors Adam Fluty (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville North) and Justin Wilson (Canfield, Ohio/Western Reserve) each carded rounds of 76 on Saturday to end the day tied for 32nd and 65th, respectively.
The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes scheduled to get underway Sunday at 7:30 a.m. from the El Campeon-Mission Inn.
