Patrick's Two Goals Lead UC to Win

CHARLOTTE, NC - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team evened its league record with a 3-0 win over Charlotte at Transamerica Field on Saturday night.
Senior Wiremu Patrick netted two goals and Mike Vessells recorded his first shutout of the season to push UC's record to 3-7-1 overall and 2-2-1 in C-USA. The 49ers fell to 5-4-1, 2-4-0 with the loss.
Cincinnati scored their first goal when Patrick scored off an Eric Edwards assist in the 21st minute. The Bearcats added another goal when Charlotte?s attempt to clear the ball of their defensive third went awry and Patrick corralled the misclear. He then blasted a scoring shot into the lower right corner of the goal from about 25 yards just 48 seconds before halftime.
Cincinnati concluded their scoring when Jeremiah Gallegos scored on Matt Hayden?s assist in the 64th minute.
Vessells made five saves for his second career shutout as UC was outshot 11-9. The Bearcats committed 24 fouls to UNCC's 14 in the match.
The Bearcats return home to host Butler at Gettler Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
