HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.?The University of Cincinnati men?s golf team got a tournament-best 72 from sophomore Geoff Newman on Sunday during the final day of play at the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic.
Newman finished the tournament tied for 21st with a total of 221. He missed the top-20 by just a single stroke. Trailing Newman was junior Adam Fluty who carded a final round 77 to end the tournament tied for 42nd with a score of 227. Bryce Ledford of Tennessee-Chattanooga won the individual title with a total of 207, taking medalist honors by five strokes over Jacksonville State?s Patrico Cozzoli.
In the team standings, UC fell from 12th to 15th in the final order after shooting a combined 306 on Sunday. The Bearcats finished the tournament with a three-round total of 913. Winthrop, the host school for the tournament, picked up the team title by three strokes over Charleston Southern and Elon.
Cincinnati will wrap up the fall portion of its schedule when they compete in the Precept Intercollegiate Oct. 25-26 in Clarksville, Tenn.
