CINCINNATI, Ohio--University of Cincinnati head basketball coach Bob Huggins announced that Andy Kennedy, who is in his fourth season on staff at UC, has been elevated to associate head coach.

"Andy is a tremendous basketball coach and has done a super job for us here at Cincinnati," said Huggins. "He works extremely hard in all facets of basketball and does a great job with our players. He also does an excellent job for us in recruiting and doing all the research and homework required to put us in position to recruit the best players in the country."

Kennedy, who graduated from UAB in 1991, has nine years of experience as an assistant coach in the college ranks. He has served as the Bearcats' recruiting coordinator the past three seasons, compiling Top 10 recruiting classes each year. The 36-year-old Kennedy was a standout player at UAB and is still the school's No. 2 all-time leading scorer with 1,787 points. He averaged 18.8 points in his three-year career at UAB after transferring from North Carolina State, where he was a member of the late Jim Valvano's 1987 ACC championship team.
