Hillery Wilson shared medalist honors at the Huskie Classic in her last tournament.

SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati women?s golf team, led by its talented freshmen duo of Allison Mayborg and Hillery Wilson, will be back in action on Oct. 18-19 when they travel to Waynesville, N.C. to compete in the 2004 Wachovia Great Smokies Intercollegiate. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being hosted by Western Carolina University and will be held at the Waynesville Country Club.

PREVIEWING THE TOURNAMENT: A total of 24 teams will converge on the Waynesville Country Club for the 2004 Wachovia Great Smokies Intercollegiate. The tournament kicks off on Monday, Oct. 18 with tee times for the opening 18 holes beginning at 9 a.m. The final 18 holes will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. A full field will be on hand for the tournament, with Appalachian State, Austin Peay, Belmont, Dayton, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Elon, Evansville, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Lipscomb, Longwood, Loyola-Chicago, Mobile, Murray State, Samford, South Alabama, Tennessee Tech, Western Kentucky, William & Mary, Wofford and Xavier joining the host Lady Catamounts and the Bearcats in the field.

TOURNAMENT WIN: Freshman Hillery Wilson has already made a big impact on the Cincinnati women?s golf program this fall, but none bigger than her performance at the Huskie Classic Oct. 3-4. For the first time in her career, Wilson earned medalist honors, finishing the tournament with a two-round score of 157 and tied with Lisa Bailey of Northern Illinois. The win was the first by a Bearcat since Allison Couch put up back-to-back victories in the Krump Kup and Bronco Invitational last spring.

IN THE RANKINGS: The latest Golfweek rankings show the Bearcats as the 154th ranked team in the country. Individually, all nine players are in the rankings. The players with their rankings include: Hillery Wilson (262), Allison Mayborg (443), Alysa Few (586), Mya Pronschinske (870), Allison Couch (1029), Sarah Bires (1089), Emily Elliott (1202), Jackie Nimer (1279), Sarah Ryan (1320).

IMMEDIATE IMPACT: UC?s two freshmen have made their presence felt early this season, as Hillery Wilson has two top-five finishes, including a win and Allison Mayborg has a best finish of fifth. The latest Golfstat ratings show the Bearcat freshmen as having the 21st biggest impact on its team of any squad in the nation.
