IRVING, Texas ? University of Cincinnati junior goalkeeper Mike Vessells (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) has been named Conference USA Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the week ending Oct. 17, the conference announced today (Oct. 18).
Vessells led the Bearcats to a 1-0-1 record during the week, blanking previously undefeated and 13th-ranked USF, 1-0, on Oct. 16. He made three saves in recording his second shutout of the season. On Oct. 12 against Butler, Vessells made 12 saves, many of the spectacular sort, to earn a 1-1 tie against the Bulldogs, snapping their eight-match winning streak.
Vessells and the Bearcats are in action on Oct. 20 as they visit pre-season C-USA favorite Saint Louis at 7 p.m. CT.
