Bearcats to honor senior class prior to Charlotte match

Midfielder Amy Mink will be one of six seniors playing in her final home match on Oct. 24 against Charlotte

The University of Cincinnati women?s soccer team will play its final two home matches of the season as the Bearcats welcome East Carolina and Charlotte to Gettler Stadium on Oct. 22 and Oct. 24, respectively. Kickoff against ECU is set for 7:00 p.m. The Charlotte match will kickoff at 1 p.m. preceded by senior day festivities.

LAST TIME OUT: Cincinnati dropped a 1-0 decision against Louisville on Oct. 17

ABOUT THE PIRATES: The East Carolina Pirates stand at 5-8-2 overall and in a seventh-place tie with a 3-3-1 conference record. ECU scored two goals in the second half to defeat Southern Miss on Oct. 17.

Meghan McCallion leads the Lady Pirates with seven goals, four assists, 18 points and 41 shots this season.

Head coach Rob Donnenwirth (West Virginia Weslyan College ?88) holds a 54-41-18 overall record in his sixth season.

UC-ECU SERIES: The Bearcats are undefeated against ECU in four matches all-time. Last season, UC beat the Pirates 2-1 in Cincinnati.

ABOUT THE 49ERS: The Charlotte 49ers, owners of a 3-11-1 overall record, visit on senior day in a seventh-place tie with a 3-3-1 C-USA record. The 49ers blanked Tulane on Oct. 17 for their second straight win.

Charlotte is led byLindsey Beam?s four goals, four assists and 12 points. Goalkeeper Shannon Huffman is seventh in C-USA with 55 saves.

Charlotte head coach Neil Roberts (Delaware ?87) is in his sixth season at the helm of the 49ers. He holds a 60-47-12 overall record.

UC-CHARLOTTE SERIES: UC holds a 5-4-2 record against Charlotte. The 49ers won in 2003, 1-0, in double overtime.

ROUGH ROAD: Charlotte has yet to win a road match this season, dropping its first seven road contests this season.

SENIOR RECOGNITION: Prior to the match against Charlotte on Oct. 24, UC will honor seniors Renee Balconi, Tracy Hale, Amy Mink, Angie Meyer, Lisa Stephens and Marie Stelka in a pregame ceremony.

BABY BEARCATS: A gang of young newcomers has made its presence felt for the Bearcats this fall. True freshmen Amanda Ryan, Cara Alldred, and Andrea Haney, along with redshirt freshman Rachel Epps and sophomore first-year player Ana Farmer have combined to score six of the Bearcats? 10 goals this season. Alldred and fellow frosh Gigi Ernst have started each match, while Ryan and Haney have started six apiece. True freshman goalkeeper Jen Doerflein has made four appearances, including three starts. The influx of young talent portends a bright future for Bearcat women?s soccer.

SPREADING IT AROUND: With Lisa Stephens? goal against Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 15, nine different Bearcats have now scored this season, with freshman Amanda Ryan leading the squad with two tallies. Stephens leads the team with five points, while three teammates have each recorded four points.

SLYE TOPS C-USA: Goalkeeper Sherry Slye currently leads Conference USA in saves per match with 5.14. Slye has appeared in seven matches and has made a team-leading 36 saves.

GLENN NUMBER 10: Head coach Meridy Glenn currently ranks 10th in overall victories as a Division I head coach with 239. Her .610 (239-148-28) winning percentage in 21 seasons ranks 33rd all-time amongst Division I mentors.

C-USA POLL: The Bearcats were picked to finish seventh in a preseason poll of Conference USA?s coaches. UAB, the 2003 regular season champions, was selected to repeat, followed by Saint Louis, DePaul and Marquette.

UP NEXT: Cincinnati plays its final match of the regular season at Memphis on Oct. 30. Kickoff is 7 p.m. CT.
