Men's Golf Wraps Up Fall At Austin Peay

SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati?s men?s golf team will wrap up the fall portion of its 2004-05 schedule when they compete in the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate on Oct. 25-26. The 54-hole two-day tournament will be held at the Links at Novadell.
PREVIEWING THE TOURNAMENT: A total of 16 men?s golf squads will converge on the Links at Novadell for the 2004 F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate. The 54-hole, two-day tournament kicks off on Monday (Oct. 25), beginning with 36 holes in a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CST. The final 18 holes will get underway at 8 a.m. CST on Tuesday. Joining the Bearcats and the host Governors will be teams from Belmont, Chattanooga, Dayton, Detroit Mercy, Evansville, IUPUI, Lipscomb, Morehead State, Murray State, New Orleans, Samford, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and Wright State. Austin Peay is the two-time defending tournament champions and have won four of the five events all-time. Matt Gallant of APSU won last year?s indvidual medalist honors.
LAST TIME OUT: UC got a tournament-best round of 72 from sophomore Geoff Newman during the final day of play at the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic. Newman finished the tournament tied for 21st with a total of 221, missing the top-20 by just a single stroke. Trailing Newman was junior Adam Fluty who carded a final round 77 to end the tournament tied for 42nd with a score of 227. In the team standings, the Bearcats fell from 12th to 15th in the final order after shooting a combined 306 in the final round. UC finished the tournament with a three-round total of 913.
WELCOME TO COLLEGE: True freshman Peter Heile has competed in each of the team?s last two tournament?s and has found mixed results. Heile earned a top-20 finish, ranking 17th at the Dayton Fall Invitational. Later that week, Heile shot a career-low round and the fourth lowest on the squad this year when he shot a second round 73. Heile, one of two freshman on the Bearcat roster, has a 79.8 average through four rounds of play.
