Senior goalkeeper made four saves against Charlotte |
CINCINNATI, Ohio ? The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team dropped its third straight match, 1-0, against Charlotte this afternoon (Oct. 24) at Gettler Stadium. The Bearcats recognized the 2004 senior class prior to the match, but UC (4-12-0/1-7-0) was unable to use that energy against the 49ers, being mathematically eliminated from Conference USA Tournament contention with today's loss. The 49ers recorded their third straight shutout.
Charlotte got on the board at the 8:51 mark when Lindsey Beam gathered a loose ball at midfield and dribbled through several UC defenders before firing a shot over the head of keeper Tracy Hale (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) and into the upper right corner of the goal. Beam's fifth goal of the season moved the 49ers to 4-3-2 in conference play. Goalkeeper Shannon Huffman made three saves in shutting out the Bearcats for the ninth time this season.
Cincinnati seniors Hale, Renee Balconi (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North), Angie Meyer (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) and Amy Mink (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) played their final home match for the Bearcats. Lisa Stephens (Union, Mo./Union) and Marie Strelka (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) both missed the match with injuries.
The Bearcats were outshot, 14-6, and had only one corner kick to the 49ers' eight.
UC is next in action on Oct. 29 at Memphis. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
