Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Vessells earned his second consecutive C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honor

IRVING, Texas ? University of Cincinnati sophomore goalkeeper Mike Vessells (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) has been named Conference USA Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the week ending on Oct. 24. The co-captain made 13 saves in two shutout wins during the week, including eight stops in a 1-0 victory at No. 21 Saint Louis on Oct. 20, to earn his second straight player-of-the-week nod.

Vessells has keyed the Bearcats' recent six-match unbeaten streak with his spectacular play, limiting his opponents to only two goals over six contests while recording shutouts in four of the past five matches. UC is 4-0-2 during the hot streak and has outscored its opponents 13-2.

Vessells is second in Conference USA with 66 saves. He also ranks third in goals against average (1.03), tied for second in shutouts (4), and fourth in save percentage (.805).

The Bearcats are next in action on Oct. 27 as they travel to Lexington for a non-conference match with long-time rival Kentucky at 7:30 p.m.
