CINCINNATI, Ohio ? The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team fell behind early, and, despite a furious second half comeback, dropped a 2-1 decision against Tulane this afternoon (Oct. 3) at Gettler Stadium. The Bearcats fall to 2-8-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the conference, as Tulane improves to 5-5-2 overall and a perfect 3-0-1 in C-USA play.
The Green Wave jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead at 10:57 of the first half when Lindsay Morris tapped a shot past UC keeper Sherry Slye (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) following a Cincinnati defensive lapse. Two Bearcat defenders failed to clear the ball out of the zone, allowing Morris to receive a pass from Leah Peterson and put the Green Wave ahead.
Tulane scored again 15 minutes later on a crossing pass from Cincinnati native Jackie Obert to Jessica Traver, who blasted a shot out of the air past Slye. Eight of Tulane's 10 shots in the first half were on goal. Slye made six saves in the stanza.
The match was truly a tale of two halves, as Cincinnati went into halftime trailing, 2-0. The Bearcats played most of the second half in the Tulane end, outshooting the Green Wave, 11-3. Freshman Andrea Haney (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) got the Bearcats on the board in the 80th minute when she put back a deflected Becky Imhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) shot. Haney's first collegiate score brought UC to within one goal, but that was as close as they would get.
"We can't seem to go out and play 90 minutes," said Bearcat head coach Meridy Glenn. "That has been a challenge."
The Bearcats will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to take on C-USA foe Marquette on Oct. 8. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET.
