HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.?Geoff Newman shot a 73 and Adam Fluty a 74 to lead the University of Cincinnati men?s golf team in the first round of the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic, hosted by Winthrop University.
Newman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) is tied for 12th in the first day standings, while Fluty (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville North) is tied for 22nd. Three golfers are tied atop the individual leader board after shooting first round scores of 68.
In the team standings, UC is tied for 13th with Appalachian State and Old Dominion with a first day total of 306. The trio trails 12th place Western Carolina by just one stroke and is just three back of Florida A&M in 10th.
The tournament continues on Saturday from the El Campeon-Mission Inn. The final 18 holes are scheduled for Sunday.
