CINCINNATI, Ohio ? Anne Stephens keyed a second-half surge that carried the University of Cincinnati to a 55-43 win over the Ohio Legends in exhibition basketball action on Wednesday night in Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center.

With the game tied at 39-39 with nine minutes to go, Stephens scored three straight baskets and eight points overall in a 13-1 run that gave the Bearcats a 52-40 lead with 4:03 to go. The Legends were held without a field goal for over six minutes during the run.

Stephens finished with a game-high 20 points on 9-of-18 shooting to go with 15 rebounds. Toni Slaughter was the only other UC player in double-figures with 13 points and Karen Twehues added eight rebounds.

The Bearcats shot just .371 from the field, but made .452 in the second half and held the Legends to .250 shooting. Each team committed 20 turnovers.

The win concludes UC?s exhibition season. The Bearcats open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 19 at Toledo.

The Legends were led by Nancy Bowden?s 15 points and Chrissy Donovan grabbed eight rebounds. UC alum Brittani Young recorded six rebounds in 34 minutes.

Four points early by Bowden gave the Legends a 7-2 lead four minutes in. UC then went on a 16-4 run over the next 11 minutes. Stephens scored nine points in the stretch. Ashley Brown made her first basket as a Bearcat to cap the run and give UC an 18-11 advantage with five minutes left.

Each team scored just one field goal apiece over the rest of the half, as Bowden made six free throws to pull the Legends within 22-19 at the half.

A three-pointer and a three-point play by Donovan gave the Legends a 32-36 lead five and a half minutes into the second half. A three-pointer by Leslie Knoch jumpstarted a 9-2 UC run for a 35-34 lead, setting up the final surge.
