CINCINNATI, Ohio---The University of Cincinnati volleyball team has earned the number two seed for its final Conference USA Tournament, the league office announced on Sunday. The Bearcats will face off against the winner of Saint Louis and USF on Saturday (Nov. 20) at 6 p.m. at Cardinal Arena in Louisville, Ky.
The Bearcats enter the tournament with a 20-9 record and concluded the C-USA season with a 10-3 record. UC was tied with both TCU and Marquette at 10-3, but earned the second seed through a series of tiebreakers. Cincinnati will compete in the C-USA Tournament for the final time before moving to the BIG EAST next season.
?If we can?t win and be the number one seed, the next best thing is being number two,? said Bearcat head coach Reed Sunahara. ?It should be an exciting tournament and we are hoping to have a good performance. This is a good field of teams and we need to start playing our very best.?
UC split the contests against its potential opponents during the 2004 season. The Bearcats swept USF at home on Oct. 9, but saw their school record 23-match home winning streak snapped by Saint Louis on Oct. 24. Saint Louis, the number seven seed, is 14-16 this year, with a 6-7 C-USA mark. USF finished the regular season 8-18 and 5-8 in league play.
Should the Bearcats advance to the semi-finals, they will compete at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Louisville, who like the Bearcats will head to the BIG EAST in 2005, are the top seeded team for its final C-USA Tournament. The tournament gets underway on Friday (Nov. 19), with No. 9 East Carolina taking on No. 8 Houston.
