Brian Beltz had a two-run homer in game two of the Red/Black World Series.

CINCINNATI, Ohio?Brian Beltz and Logan Parker both homered and a trio of pitchers held the Red team to one hit as the Black team evened up the University of Cincinnati Baseball team?s Fall World Series with an 8-1 win on Tuesday at the UC Baseball Stadium.

UC?s pitching trio of David Theobald, Josh Kay and Mike Foley allowed only a bunt single in the fifth inning to LaFringe Hayes as the Black squad avenged an extra inning loss that concluded prior to the start of game two. After taking the loss in game one, Theobald bounced back to score the victory in game two. Red team starter A.J. Upton was tagged with the defeat.

?I thought we had some bright spots on the mound today,? said Bearcat head coach Brian Cleary. ?I thought Theobald settled down and (Bryan) Wood and Kay were good. (Kyle) Markle has also had good back-to-back outings. It was also good to see the bats come alive a little bit. We got some home runs that give us the power we need and we stole some bases again. I thought the Black team competed well, but I didn?t think the Red team did as good of a job from a competition standpoint. That?s something we need to work on is competing regardless of what the score is.?

Just as was the case in game one, the offensive fireworks started early as the Black team pushed three runs across against Upton in the top of the first. University of Alabama transfer Mark Haske singled to lead off the game and quickly stole second and third, giving him six stolen bases in just two games. One out after Haske swiped third, freshman Kevin Schrader brought the former home with an RBI ground out. Another freshman, Dustin Alvey, followed with a single, bringing Beltz to the plate with two out. Beltz then pounded a 3-0 Upton offering to deep right center for a two-run homer.

The Red team got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning, despite not picking up a hit. Hayes started the inning with a walk before stealing second. The University of Oklahoma transfer then took third when catcher Elliot Salcedo?s throw to second sailed into centerfield. Pat LeMasters? then plated Hayes with an RBI ground out.

The Black squad continued its assault on Upton in the top of the second, hitting the redshirt freshman for three more runs. With one out and runners on second and third, junior first baseman Logan Parker reached for an outside pitch and lined it over the right field wall for his first homer of the series.

The scoring concluded in the fifth inning, with the Black team scoring two more. Salcedo started the inning with a double and came around to score on a triple off the right field wall by Haske. Schrader followed with his second RBI when he lined a single to center against Bryan Wood.

Parker was the offensive star of the day as he picked up a double and a homer, while driving in three. Haske had a pair of hits, while scoring three runs and stealing two bases. Hayes led the Red team with its only hit, while stealing three bases.

The suspended game from Sunday ended quickly with the Red team picking up the 4-3 win, when they plated a run in the bottom of the eighth, the first inning played. Freshman David Oberly was the hero for Red as he lined the game-winning single down the left field line to bring home LeMasters with the winning run.

Game three of the Red/Black World Series will take place on Wednesday, starting at 6 p.m. Admission to all the World Series games is free and open to the public. Fans should also take note that game five, scheduled for Sunday, has been changed to a 2:30 p.m. start.
