Bob Huggins inked Cedric McGowan to a National Letter of Intent.

CINCINNATI, Ohio-- The University of Cincinnati men's basketball program landed a fourth member to its 2005-06 recruiting class as Cedric McGowan of Miami, Fla. inked a National Letter of Intent to join the Bearcats, head coach Bob Huggins announced today.

McGowan, a 6-7, 225-pound forward, is currently in his second season at Kilgore (Tex.) College. McGowan joins prep standouts Devon Downey (5-10, G, Chester, S.C.), Tyree Evans (6-3, G, Richmond, Va.), and Abdul Herrera (6-10, C, Miami, Fla.), who signed with the Bearcats on Wednesday.

Regarded as a tenacious performer, McGowan has led Kilgore, coached by Scott Schumacher, to a 5-0 record by averaging 16.6 points and 7.1 rebounds while shooting 66 percent from the field. McGowan is rated as the No. 7 power forward in the junior college ranks by Lindy's.

"He is a strong , physical, athletic player who will bring much-needed maturity to our team next season," said Huggins. "Cedric plays the game really hard and will be reminiscent to Bearcat fans of Curtis Bostic (former UC forward who was a four-year letterman from 1991-95). We expect him to help our frontcourt right away," Huggins added.

McGowan came to Kilgore College after an outstanding senior season at Northwestern High School in Miami, where he led his team to the state championship game after averaging more than 16 points and seven rebounds. McGowan, who earned all-state and all-county honors, was coached by Baronton Terry.

Cincinnati opens its 2004-05 season on Friday, November 19 against Valparaiso. Tipoff at Fifth Third Arena is set for 8:00 p.m. and tickets are available by calling 513-556-CATS.
