Swimmers Remain In 4th, 8th Place At Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana -- The University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams remained in 4th and 8th place, respectively, after the second day of competition at the Indiana University Invitational. The host Hoosiers hold the top spots in both the men's and women's competitions.

Four Bearcat individuals scored for the men, along with both competing relay teams. Senior Carlo Piccio earned 6th place honors in the 400 individual medley, finishing in 4:08.43. Fellow senior Enrique Bayata took 9th place in the 100 backstroke in a time of 52.56. Freshman Marcel Kleiner finished the 200 freestyle in 1:42.64, good for 9th place.

Leading the Bearcat men was junior David Gustavsson. Gustavsson scored in three events, finishing 6th in the 100 breaststroke, 9th in the 100 butterfly and 16th in the 200 freestyle.

The men's 'A' and 'B' 200 medley and 500 freestyle relay teams also scored, finishing 5th, 7th, 6th and 8th, respectively.

On the women's side, the Bearcats put points on the board with 14th and 15th place finishes by sophomore Karen Brasier and junior Ann Degenstein in teh 100 butterfly. Brasier posted a 58.25 while Degenstein was right behind with a 58.37.

The women's 'A' and 'B' 200 medley relay teams finished 12th and 16th, while the 800 free relay teams finished 10th and 15th.

UC will wrap up the three-day invitational tomorrow, Nov. 21, at Counsilman-Billingsly Aquatic Center. Preliminaries begin at 9 a.m.
