Freshman Marcel Kleiner won the 50 freestyle today at the Miami Invitational

OXFORD, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming teams took to the pool this morning at Corwin Nixon Natatorium in the 11th annual Miami University Invitational. The men's team is currently sixth, while the women occupy ninth after today's action.

The Bearcats won two events on the day, including the 200 freestyle relay. UC's Ryan Yearwood, David Gustavsson, Marcel Kleiner, and Enrique Bayata combined to finish the relay in 1:23.00, the eighth-best mark in school history.

Kleiner also placed himself among the UC leaders, winning the 50 freestyle in 20.72, the sixth-fastest time in school history.

Akvilina Vaicaityte was the lone women's scorer on day one, placing 17th in the 200 IM with a mark of 2:15.34.

The Bearcats will continue the Miami Invitational tomorrow with preliminary events starting at 10 a.m.
