OXFORD, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming teams finished sixth and ninth, respectively, at the Miami Invitational this weekend at Corwin Nixon Natatorium. Junior Ann Degenstein set two meet and facility records on the final day of the three-day invite.
The men were led by David Gustavsson and Carlo Piccio, each of whom won his event. Piccio swam a 15:53.61 1650 freestyle to capture the individual crown. Gustavsson won the 100 freestyle in 45.09. The men's 400 freestyle relay team also placed first, sporting a 3:00.32 time.
Degenstein won the 200 butterfly in 1:58.87, surpassing the old meet and facility mark of 2:00.11 set in 1998. She also broke the meet and facility record in the 100 butterfly, posting a 54.34. The previous best was 55.58, set in 1995.
The Bearcats will take some time off from competition over the next month and concentrate on training. Cincinnati will return to competitive swimming on Jan. 14 against Miami at Keating Natatorium.
