Freshman Emy Ogide set career highs with eight points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

CINCINNATI, Ohio ? Arkansas overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to down the University of Cincinnati, 66-54, in women?s basketball action on Sunday afternoon in Fifth Third Arena.

The Lady?Backs (10-2) shot .467 from the floor in the second half, doubling their first half output with 44 points. The Bearcats (5-7) made just two-of-17 three-pointers for the game and committed 17 second-half turnovers which turned into 19 UA points.

?We just didn?t execute in the second half against their zone,? said head coach Laurie Pirtle. ?Time after time we are in a game and we get tentative. I think it?s about guts and the will to win and we need to find which players have that.?

Toni Slaughter led the Bearcats with 19 points and nine rebounds and freshman Emy Ogide had a career-day with eight points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

?Emy?s coming into her own,? said Pirtle. ?She is playing aggressive and playing with guts.?

Micah Harvey added 13 points and four assists for UC, which had a 44-35 advantage on the boards.

Kristin Peoples led the Lady?Backs with 18 points, 11 coming from the free throw line in the second half. Rochelle Vaughn was the only other Arkansas player in double-figures with 10 points, all in the second half.

Both teams played tough defense, combining for 18 steals and 16 blocked shots. In the first half UA shot .357 and UC .324 as the Bearcats used 11 forced turnovers to take a 29-22 lead at the break.

After UA moved ahead 5-2 in the first minute, the Bearcats held the Lady?Backs scoreless for 7:19. UC scored nine points in that span, four by Slaughter, to take an 11-5 lead with 12:19 to go.

Arkansas scored the next six points to tie the game at 11-11. After trading baskets to even the contest at 13-13, Treasure Humphries scored the final four points of a 9-0 run to pull UC ahead, 22-13.

Harvey led UC with eight points at the break and Ogide and Humphries each had six. No Lady?Back had more than five points.

The teams played even for the first five minutes of the second half, and then Vaughn got hot, making consecutive three-pointers that started an 8-0 run to give UA back the lead, 38-37, with 12:41 to go. UC scored only eight points between 15:17 and 1:52 of the half, six by Slaughter.

Slaughter answered the UA run to regain the lead, but the Lady?Backs scored the next seven to take the lead for good.

UC was still within five with four minutes to go when People started her trips to the foul line. She went 10-for-12 in the final four minutes and UA scored seven straight to pull ahead, 57-45, with two minutes to go.

The Bearcats open their final season of Conference USA on Friday, Jan. 7 when they play at UAB at 7 p.m. CT.
