HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? The University of Cincinnati tennis team picked up its first win of the season by defeating future BIG EAST foe Pittsburgh, 5-2, at the Huntington Tennis Club on Sunday morning.
The Bearcats (1-2) opened the match by winning two-of-three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Sophomore Hannah Hinton and senior captain Samantha Liu took the win at No. 1, while sisters Jill and Julie Klauck won easily at No. 3.
UC continued its strong play in the singles action, winning at four spots. Cristina Reyes dominated Pitt?s (1-2) Becky Emmers, 6-1, 6-2, at the top spot, and Hinton followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jill Williams. Jill Klauck at No. 3 won her second match of the weekend with a straight-set win over Anne Davies and Julie Klauck posted UC?s final win, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 6 place over Carlie Smith.
The Bearcats are next in action when they host Akron on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at Five Seasons Country Club.
