CINCINNATI, Ohio ? The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team has signed eight high school seniors, including three local products, to national letters of intent. Brittney Hansen, Kristin May, Lindsey Noteboom, Nicole Sanda, and Teresa Smolilo will join Cincinnati natives Jennifer Johannigman, Chelsea Kindschuh, and Kimberly Sykes at UC to continue their academic and athletic careers in the fall of 2005.
"I feel that this is a pretty well-rounded class. They have experience at the high school, club and Olympic Development level," UC head coach Meridy Glenn commented. "The statistics that these girls put up at each level are eye-opening. They are all excited to come in and compete in the BIG EAST and we are excited about their potential."
Johannigman, a 5-3 forward, earned back-to-back first-team All-Greater Cincinnati League honors during her junior and senior seasons at Seton High School, earning Cincinnati Enquirer All-Star honors following her senior campaign.
Kindschuh, a 5-8 midfielder, played six seasons with the Ohio South State squad of the Olympic Development Program. She led Lakota East, coached by UC soccer alumni Tara Murray, to the best record in school history during her senior season, while scoring seven goals and tallying nine assists.
Sykes, a 5-6 defender from Cincinnati's Sycamore High School, led the Aviators to the best overall record and best conference finish (2nd) in school history as a senior. She was voted team MVP and earned first-team All-Greater Miami Conference three times in her career.
Hansen, a 5-6 goalkeeper, led St. Ursula Academy to the Division I state semifinals as a senior. She competed for the Pacesetters Soccer Club, leading the team to the 2003 State Club Championship.
May, the sister of current UC forward Amy May, is a 5-6 forward. The 2004 NSCAA All-American isalso a member of the Ohio North State Team of the Olympic Development Program. The third all-time leading scorer in Walsh Jesuit High School history, she led the Warriors to the 2004 state title.
Noteboom, a 5-5 midfielder, was named a first team all-district selection in each of her first three years for the Hawks. She is currently competing in her senior season. Noteboom, the Gatorade Player of the Year both her sophomore and junior campaigns, led the region in goals (46) and assists (30) as a junior.
Sanda, a 5-8 forward, scored 60 career goals at Padua Franciscan High School. She ranked second in the state in assists as a senior, while earning first-team All-North Coast League honors.
Smolilo, a 5-1 forward, scored 38 goals and added 42 assists during her high school career. A teammate of Sanda's at Padua Franciscan High School, Smolilo was a first-team All-North Coast League selection as a senior.
