UC Suffers Hard-Fought Loss

CINCINNATI, Ohio ? In a hard fought contest that featured three matches going the distance, Miami (Ohio) defeated Cincinnati, 5-2, in women?s tennis action on Sunday afternoon at Five Seasons Country Club. The Bearcats are now 2-3, while MU won its third straight to climb to 3-1.
The teams split the opening doubles matches, with MU taking No. 1 and Jill and Julie Klauck winning for UC at No. 2. The RedHawks won the decider, and the point, 8-4.
In singles play, Cristina Reyes started UC off on the right foot with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(4) win over Linda Jirouskova at No. 1. After Jill Klauck fell in three sets at No. 2, senior Samantha Liu came away with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 to even the match at 2-2.
Miami (Ohio), however, took the remaining three matches for the win. Julie Klauck lost at No. 4 in two sets, taking the second to a tie-breaker.
The Bearcats are on the road next weekend, taking on Ball State on Friday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. CT and Indiana State on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. CT.
