Shintara Carpenter set a UC record in the triple jump at the All-Ohio Championships

AKRON, Ohio ? Shintara Carpenter set a meet and school record in the triple jump to lead the Bearcats to a second-place finish at the All-Ohio Indoor Track and Field Championships today at the University of Akron Athletic Fieldhouse.

Carpenter lept a UC-record 40? 10 ?? to win the triple jump by nearly three feet.

Jo Young continued her stellar season, breaking her own school record in the shot put (48? 9 ??) by nearly two feet to place second. She won the weight throw with a career-best 56? 10 ??.

Top-5 performances in the field events were posted by Renee Hein in the high jump (3rd), Brittney Klima in the pole vault (5th), and Ashley Wilhelm and Ije Obiorah in the long jump (3rd, 5th).

Placing in the top 5 in the track events for UC was Jocelyn Gibson in the 800 meters (4th), Karen Berling in the 5000 meters (4th), and Wilhelm in the 60 meter hurdles (5th).

The relay teams posted solid times, with the 4x400 recording its second-best time of the season (4:00.36) to finish 4th. The distance medley relay team (12:28.01) finished 2nd in its first competition of the season.

Cincinnati finished fourth at the All-Ohio meet last season.

The Bearcats will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Scarlet and Gray Invitational on Feb. 19 in their final tune-up prior to the Conference USA Championships in Houston starting on Feb. 25.
