New UC assistant volleyball coach Steve Aird.

CINCINNATI, Ohio---The University of Cincinnati has rounded out its volleyball coaching staff with the hiring of former Auburn assistant Steve Aird. The Canadian born Aird joins a staff headed by Reed Sunahara and also includes recent hiree, Chrissy Smith.

At Cincinnati, Aird will have a hand in all areas of the program, including serving as the Bearcats? recruiting coordinator. He will also be involved with the Bearcat camps, as well as scouting and player development.

?I feel that we are very fortunate to have Steve join our staff,? Sunahara stated. ?He is the missing piece to our puzzle. Steve will bring a great deal of knowledge and experience to our staff and his recruiting connections are a great addition to our program.?

Aird comes to Cincinnati after spending the last three seasons at Auburn as a member of former Marquette coach Laura Farina?s staff. At Auburn, Aird had responsibilities in all areas of the program, including budget, travel, training, recruiting and camps.

Prior to his tenure at Auburn, Aird was an assistant at Davidson College. He also spent a year as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater, Penn State, under head coach Russ Rose.

As a player, the London, Ontario native was a two-time captain of the Nittany Lions men?s team, helping the squad to three Final Four appearances. Aird also played with the Team Canada Volleyball Program, competing against national teams from across the globe. He earned a BA in sports management from Penn State in 2000.

Aird will help lead the Bearcats as they make the transition to their first year in the BIG EAST Conference this fall. The 2004 Bearcats posted a 22-11 record and finished second in C-USA.
