CINCINNATI, Ohio ? In the first of two-straight matches against ranked opponents, the University of Cincinnati tennis team fell to No. 71 Auburn, 6-1, Friday afternoon at Five Seasons Country Club.
The Bearcats (3-6) managed a single win as senior captain Samantha Liu defeated Tori Almagno, 7-6(3), 6-2, at the No. 4 singles spot. Hannah Hinton, back in the lineup after losing three weeks to illness, battled Isabel Rosenbrock at the No. 3 spot, falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Jill Klauck at No. 2 and Lindsay Brown at No. 6 both forced tiebreakers before being defeated.
Auburn (5-1) won all three doubles matches handily, only losing five games total.
UC is right back in action on Saturday, travelling to Minneapolis to face No. 45 Denver at 3 p.m. CT and host Minnesota on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
