Junior helped Bearcats to weekend sweep of Duke

Jon DeLuca is Conference USA's Hitter of the Week.

DALLAS, Texas---Jon DeLuca, who helped the University of Cincinnati baseball team to a weekend sweep of Duke, has been named Conference USA Hitter of the Week.

DeLuca (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson), a junior third baseman, had multiple hits in all three games of the weekend and finished the set hitting .500 (7-for-14). He drove in a total of four runs, while scoring three more and doubling twice. The award is the first ever C-USA accolade for DeLuca.

DeLuca?s weekend performance raised his batting average nearly 200 points to .276 for the season.

The sweep for the Bearcats was the team's first since taking all three games of a home series from Cleveland State March 8-10, 2002.

The three wins even UC?s 2005 season record at 3-3. The Bearcats will be out to extend their winning streak to four when they return to North Carolina this weekend for a three-game series at Wake Forest.
