The University of Cincinnati Indoor Track and Field team travels to Houston, Texas for the 2005 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships beginning on Feb. 25 at the Yeoman Fieldhouse. UC will look to improve upon its 11th-place finish from a year ago.

MEET INFORMATION: The Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at Yeoman Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Houston. Events will begon on Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. and conclude on Feb. 26. Updated results are available at www.UHCougars.com.

LAST TIME OUT: Jo Young and Renee Hein won individual titles as the University of Cincinnati indoor track and field team competed at the Scarlet and Gray Invitational on Feb. 19 at Ohio State?s French Fieldhouse.

Young won the shot put crown, her seventh title in nine events this season, unleashing a 48' 7-1/4" throw, her second best of the season. Young also finished fourth in the weight throw with a personal-best 57' 10-1/2", the first time in five meets this season that she has not won the event.

Hein again won the high jump, clearing 5' 7". She has won four individual titles in the high jump this season.

Other notable performers included Ije Obiorah, who finished second in the long jump (17' 4") and posted a personal-best in the triple jump (35' 10-3/4").

2004 C-USA CHAMPIONSHIPS: UC placed 11th at last year?s C-USA Championships.

Jo Young placed fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 54?8? and fourth in the shot put on her last throw of the event, tossing 46?1 ?.? Young was the team?s high scorer, recording 10 of the 22 points in her two events alone.

Three Bearcats recorded personal records during the first day of the event. Tara Meier cleared a personal-best of 10?11 ?? in the pole vault, barely missing the finals and placing ninth overall. Jammie Jackson also recorded a personal best of 57.07 in the 400m dash, making the finals with the fifth fastest time. She is now second on UC?s all-time performance list. Running well in the finals, Jackson captured ninth place overall. Jocelyn Gibson set a personal best as well, running a 2:16.72 in the 800m run to place ninth.

Ashley Arnett and Ashley Wilhelm also scored points for Cincinnati, placing sixth and eighth, respectively, in the long jump. Wilhelm also finished fifth in the pentathlon.

THROW, JO: Senior Jo Young, the UC record holder in both the indoor and outdoor shot put, has been nothing less than outstanding during her senior season, capturing seven of the 10 events in which she has competed. At the Hoosier Classic on Jan. 15, Young won both the shot put and the weight throw. At Bowling Green, she took home the shot put crown, helping the Bearcats to a team championship. Young grabbed both the shot and weight titles at the Fazoli?s Open and won the weight throw at the All-Ohio Championships. Young topped her own school record in the shot put at the All-Ohio (48? 9-1/2?). At the Scarlet and Gray Invite, Young nabbed the shot put title and posted a personal-best 57? 10-1/2? weight throw.

CARPENTER?S TOOLS: Shintara Carpenter has picked up where she left off in 2003 after missing last season with an injury. She broke her own school triple jump record at the All-Ohio Championships and also captured the 60 meter hurdles title at the Fazoli?s Open and the triple jump crown at the Bowling Green Quintangular.

UC AMONG TOP TEAMS: The Cincinnati indoor track & field team is currently ranked 36th in the USTCA Power Rankings. The Bearcats are also rated 130th of 257 teams overall and 5th among Conference USA teams in the latest rankings by trackshark.com.

COMING UP: National qualifiers will move onto the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. on March 11-12.
