UC women tied for fifth, men fourth

Enrique Bayata helped the UC men to the 200 freestyle title on day one of the C-USA Invitational in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas -- The University of Cincinnati opened the women's Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships and men's C-USA Invitational today in Houston's CRWC Natatorium. With two events complete, the women are tied for fifth place with host Houston with 54 points, while the UC men are fourth with 79 points.

The men captured their first title of the meet as the 200 freestyle relay team of Ryan Yearwood, David Gustavsson, Marcel Kleiner and Enrique Bayata won in 1:20.58. The men's 800 freestyle relay team finished fourth in 6:51.88.

On the women's side, UC's 200 freestyle relay team finished seventh in 1:42.96, while the 800 freestyle team finished fourth in a season-best 7:29.81.

TCU leads the women's pack with 80 points, while the men are led by East Carolina with 117 points.

Tomorrow, the meet kicks off at 11 a.m. ET with preliminaries for the 50 and 500 freestyle and the 200 individual medley.
