Women's Track In Third After Day One at C-USA Championships

HOUSTON, Texas -- A blend of top-10 finishes led the University of Cincinnati Indoor Track and Field team to a third place standing after day one of competition at the Conference USA Indoor Championships in Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse.
Jo Young was UC's top finisher, placing second in the weight throw with a career-best throw of 58' 4-3/4". Memphis' Gail Lee captured the event title with a 61' 7" toss.
The field events were again where UC scored the bulk of its points. Tara Meier set a school record with a 11' 11-3/4" pole vault, finishing fifth.
Ashley Wilhelm placed fourth in the pentathlon, scoring a UC-record 3567 points.
In the long jump, Erin Leeper placed sixth for UC with a personal-best 18' 8" jump.
Houston leads the C-USA Championship field with 36 points while USF stands in second with 30. UC is third with 24 points.
The final day of competition gets underway tomorrow with field events beginning at 12 a.m. ET.
