CINCINNATI, Ohio-- University of Cincinnati junior guard Chadd Moore has decided to leave the basketball team for health reasons, head coach Bob Huggins announced on Monday. The 6-2 Moore, a native of Huntsville, Ala., has been battling back injuries the past two seasons and finally thought it was time to give up college basketball. He will stay on scholarship at UC.
"It has been a great time for me here at Cincinnati and I have really enjoyed being a part of such a great program, but my back has gotten worse and I am in pain all the time," said Moore. "I talked with my mom about it and this is the best possible thing for me to do right now. I just cannot help the team the way I know I could if I were healthy. I am going to miss participating with my teammates, but I will be there for them during practice and at games."
Moore has played in 24 of the Bearcats' first 28 games this season, which included five starts. He averaged 3.3 points and 2.5 assists, to go along with 21 steals and 10 blocked shots, while averaging 15 minutes per game. Moore had his first career double-double in a win over LaSalle on Dec. 22 when he scored 10 points and dished out a career-best 10 assists.
"Chadd has played through a lot of pain and we really appreciate everything he has been through the past couple years," said Huggins. "We sympathize with Chadd and his family and I know he will finish his degree here at UC and be a positive influence in society. We wish him well."
Moore, who was an all-state performer at Lee High School in Huntsville, Ala., went on to earn all-Eastern honors at prep power Oak Hill (Va.) Academy in 2002 before enrolling at UC
