Kevin Schrader earned his first career win in Saturday's triumph over Cleveland State.

CINCINNATI, Ohio---Kevin Schrader earned his first career win and LaFringe Hayes hit his third triple of the weekend, leading Cincinnati to a 7-1 win over Cleveland State in college baseball action on Saturday afternoon at the UC Baseball Stadium.

Schrader gave the Bearcats five solid innings, limiting the Vikings to just one run on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts. A trio of Bearcat relievers took over from there, holding CSU scoreless for the final four innings, while allowing just three hits.

Hayes and Mark Haske again paced the Bearcat offensive attack, accounting for a combined four hits, six runs scored and two stolen bases. Hayes tallied his fourth triple of the young season, while also swiping his team-leading fifth stolen base. Haske recorded two hits to raise his team-best batting average to .419.

The victory improves the Bearcats record to 6-5 on the year, the first time the team has held a winning record after opening day since 2002. UC has now won three consecutive games for the second time this year and will go for its second series sweep on Sunday.

Cincinnati wasted little time getting on the board, scoring twice in the first on the strength of two Viking errors. Hayes reached on an infield single and quickly stole second. Haske drew a walk, bringing Jon DeLuca to the plate. The junior laid down a sacrifice bunt attempt that moved both runners up and when CSU third baseman Steve Chinn?s throw was wild, DeLuca took first and Hayes came in to score. Haske was the next to trot home when Jack Nelson hit into a double play.

Cleveland State cut the deficit to 3-1 with its first run of the season in the top of the third. Dominic Erney drove home Jeff Katlen with an RBI single after the latter lined a two-out double to left center.

UC got the run back in its half of the third when DeLuca ripped an RBI double inside the left field line that brought Hayes around to score. The Bearcats poured on two more runs to take a 5-1 lead in the fifth, getting a Haske run on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly by Parker.

The scoring concluded in the seventh with two more Bearcat markers. Hayes led the inning off with a triple and three batters later, Nelson lined a two-run single to center, moving him into a tie for the team lead with 11 RBI.

Cleveland State (0-2) outhit the Bearcats for the day by a 9-7 count. Katlen accounted for three of the Vikings? knocks, including his first double of the year. Gary Ball took the loss for CSU, allowing five runs (three earned) in five innings of work.

The series between the squads concludes on Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch. Sean Munninghoff will take the mound for the Bearcats, taking on CSU?s Mike Ochwat.
