ST. CROIX, V.I.---Behind the first top-10 finish of the season by Allison Couch, the University of Cincinnati women?s golf team finished sixth over the weekend at the St. Croix Collegiate Classic, hosted by Xavier.
Couch finished the three-day tournament tied for seventh with a score of 235 for 54 holes. Her score included a final round 77 which equalled her best round of the 2004-05 season.
In the team standings, UC missed a top-five finish by a single stroke, falling one behind Barry University with a total of 979. Notre Dame dominated the tournament, finishing with the top two individual players and bettering second place Xavier by 35 strokes (919-954).
Freshman Hillery Wilson also tallied a top-25 finish for UC, coming home 24th with a total of 243. Classmate Allison Mayborg trailed Wilson by seven strokes, finishing tied for 30th.
The Bearcats will be back in action on March 21-22 when they compete in the Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate. The event, to be hosted by Marshall, will take place at the El Diablo Golf and Country Club in Citrus Springs, Fla.
