UC to race Clemson, Dartmouth

SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati rowing team opens its spring season on March 26 when they take on Dartmouth University and Clemson University in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The event will be held on the same course as the NCAA Regionals on May 14-15.

ENDING THE FALL: The Bearcat rowers wrapped up the fall portion of their schedule by competing in the Rivanna Romp, hosted by the University of Virginia. UC?s novice 8 second boat recorded the squad?s best finish of the day as they crossed they finish line in 16:58.3 to place seventh. In the varsity 8, the Bearcats narrowly missed the top 10 with two of its three boats, as they finished 11th and 12th in times of 15:18.2 and 15:18.3, respectively.

PREVIEWING THE RACE: Last year to the day, the Bearcats took on Dartmouth. Cincinnati?s varsity four boat posted a time of 7:39.4 to a 7:39.9 for Dartmouth. In the first eight race, Dartmouth picked up the win by a 6:40.9 to 6:50.8 margin. UC has never competed against Clemson University and is looking forward to the new competition. Clemson recently held their Solid Orange Clemson Challenge Regatta hosting Indiana, Marist, Buffalo, and Purdue. Clemson took first place four out of the five races.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME: After not holding a home race last season, the Bearcats will host a pair of events this spring. On April 2, UC will welcome crews from Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Indiana and Louisville to town, with Buffalo and Kansas visiting on April 23. Both of the races will be held on Harsha Lake in East Fork State Park.
