Mark Haske homered for UC Wednesday vs. Ohio.

CINCINNATI, Ohio---Ohio scored five runs in the fourth inning to pull away from Cincinnati and record an 8-3 win over the Bearcats in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at the UC Baseball Stadium.

Mark Haske provided one of the few bright spots on the day for the Bearcats, going 3-for-4 with his first home run in a Cincinnati uniform. Ohio improves to 6-12 on the year with the win, while the Bearcats fall to 9-13 and have dropped four in a row.

Ohio needed just six hits on the day, taking advantage of three Bearcat errors. Luke Howard (1-1) held UC in check for five innings, allowing just a run on three hits. Daniel Utts tossed the final four innings to record his first save. Starter Nick Buscemi was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs in three-plus innings.

The day started with OU?s Phil Sabatini reaching on an error and ultimately coming around to score on an RBI groundout by Anthony Gressick. UC tied the game with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the frame on Haske?s long ball.

Ohio added two more runs in the second to pull to a 3-1 lead, with both runs coming on run-scoring groundouts. Willie Walker provided the first, while Bryant Witt followed with one of his own.

The wheels fell off for Buscemi and the Bearcats as 10 Ohio batters came to the plate in a five-run fourth inning. Witt provided the big hit of the frame with a bases clearing double that put the Bobcats in front, 6-1. Dusty Hammond provided an RBI single with the fifth run coming on a wild pitch by reliever Bryan Wood.

From there, the trio of Sean Munninghoff, Matt Heber and Josh Kay held the Bobcats in check, allowing just one walk in five shutout innings. The Bearcats scored the final runs of the day in the bottom of the ninth, when Adam Calez dumped his first career-hit, a two-run double down the right field line.

No Ohio player recorded multiple hits on the day, but the Bobcats did get four RBI from Witt.

UC will be out to snap its losing streak when it continues a six-game homestand this weekend. The Bearcats will host Houston in Conference USA action beginning on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
