SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati?s men?s golf team returns to the links this weekend for its second tournament of the spring season, travelling to Richmond, Ky. for the Eastern Kentucky Spring Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole tournament gets underway on Friday (April 1) with 36 holes and wraps up on Saturday. The tournament will provide a tune-up for UC for the first-ever UC/UD College Invitational to be held April 4-5.
PREVIEWING THE TOURNAMENT: A total of 16 men?s golf squads will converge on the Arlington Golf Course for the 2005 Eastern Kentucky University Spring Intercollegiate. The 54-hole, two-day tournament kicks off on Friday (April 1), beginning with 36 holes. The final 18 holes will be played on Saturday. Joining the Bearcats and the host Colonels will be teams from Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Cleveland State, Dayton, Detroit-Mercy, IPFW, Malone College, Missouri-Baptist, Morehead State, Samford, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Wright State and Youngstown State. The Bearcats finished sixth in last year?s 14-team edition of the tournament, with host EKU grabbing the team title by 10 strokes.
WELCOME ABOARD: The Bearcat roster has grown by one with the addition of freshman Kyle Pinger. Pinger joins the Bearcats from Cincinnati?s Turpin High School where he was the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Player of the Year as a senior. He will get his first taste of collegiate golf this weekend as he is part of the five-man Bearcat line-up for the EKU Spring Intercollegiate.
LOOKING AHEAD: After this weekend?s trip to Richmond, Ky., the Bearcats will be in action once again beginning on Monday (April 4). UC will join with the University of Dayton to host the first-ever UC/UD College Golf Invitational. The two-day tournament will be played at a pair of courses, starting with Clovernook Country Club in Cincinnati on Monday. On Tuesday, action shifts to Yankee Trace Country Club in Dayton for the final 18 holes. Joining UC and UD for the event will be squads from Butler, IUPUI and Walsh.
