UC Men Claim Nikoloff Title; Women Second

CINCINNATI, Ohio --- The University of Cincinnati men?s track team used five event titles and 18 top three finishes to easily win the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational at Gettler Stadium on Saturday. The Bearcat women also claimed five titles, finishing in second just five points behind Eastern Michigan.
The UC men earned 239 points in the cold, wet and windy conditions, finishing well ahead of second place EMU (169 points) and third place Miami (Ohio) (117.5 points) in the nine-team field. On the women?s side EMU earned 155 points to UC?s 150, icing the win by taking the 4x400 meter relay title in the last event of the day. Bowling Green finished third of the 11 teams with 133 points.
The top scoring event for the men was the 800 meters, where Bearcats took the top three spots. Jake Richards finished first in 1:54.49, followed by Alex Ramsey (1:54.79) and Patrick Starkey (1:55.24). Chris Smith won the pole vault, which was moved indoors, by clearing a height of 5.05 meters. Phill Joseph was UC?s third individual winner, taking the triple jump title with a leap of 13.65 meters. UC also claimed victories in both relays, winning the 4x100 in a time of 41.73 seconds and the 4x400 in 3:19.24.
Jo Young was the big winner on the women?s side, earning victories in both the shot put (14.60 meters) and hammer (50.26 meters), while placing third in the discus (42.00 meters). Other winners for the Bearcat women included Renee Hein in the high jump (1.63 meters), Brittany Klima in the pole vault (3.65 meters) and Ashley Wilhelm in the long jump (5.78 meters).
The Bearcats are in action next weekend at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio on Saturday, April 9.
