UC Rowers To Compete In Carolina Invitational

SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati rowing team continues its spring season on Saturday, April 9 when it takes on Delaware, Eastern Michigan, Navy, North Carolina, St. Joseph?s, and Southern Methodist in the Carolina Invitational. This event is being hosted by North Carolina and will take place on Lake Wheeler in Raleigh.
APRIL SHOWERS: Rain and high winds along Harsha Lake forced the cancellation of the Bearcat?s scheduled race last weekend. The event against Dayton, Eastern Michigan and Indiana, will not be rescheduled, although UC will get the chance to race EMU in the Carolina Invitational.
PREVIEWING THE EVENT: Delaware just concluded their spring training in Florida; this will be the Blue Hens opening race of their spring season. Eastern Michigan won the 2005 Lubber Cup two weeks ago, where they took on Grand Valley State and the Michigan State Club. North Carolina recently scrimmaged Williams University and took the win in both the varsity and novice eight races. The Mustangs of SMU hosted Kansas last weekend where they finished with a 1-4 record on the day. The Red Hawks of St. Joseph?s just came back from San Diego where they competed in the San Diego Crew Classic where they reached the finals and posted a 3rd place finish.
LAST TIME OUT: Cincinnati got a win from its second varsity four crew and three second place finishes at the opening race of the spring season on March 26. UC wrapped up its spring break training trip with a three-way race against Clemson and Dartmouth. UC?s second four won its race by three seconds, winning with a time of 8:16.0 over second place Clemson. The Bearcats got second place finishes from its second varsity eight, second novice eight and varsity four boats during the day?s competition.
UP NEXT: Following this weekend?s event, the Bearcats will meet a future BIG EAST rival travelling to Notre Dame next weekend. UC then returns to Harsha Lake on April 23 for a home race vs. Kansas and Buffalo.
